Creating Positive Environments through Safer Communities (C-PETS)

The Police Force ‘D’ Division (West Demerara/ East Bank Essequibo) in collaboration with the religious community continues with the empowerment of youths in the community under the divisional project C-PETS (Creating Positive Environments through Safer Communities) which seeks to provide technical training for unemployed youths and school dropouts, among other initiatives.

On June 17, 2015, over sixty seven young men and women were enrolled at the Leonora Technical Training Center to pursue skills training courses ranging from welding to auto mechanics and carpentry. The initial program is set to run for six weeks leading to a one (1) year program with both part time and full time options.

It is expected that upon successful completion of the program the youths will be certified and will also be able to seek employment, both locally and overseas, as the certificate is internationally recognized.

During the training the Guyana Police Force will be providing transportation for the participants to attend classes.
